Glass Roofs

November 25th, 2009

One choice you will have to make when buying a new conservatory is what roofing material to use. In this post we’ll talk about glass roofs.

Some of the plus points are:

  • Glass is a better sound insulator than polycarbonate, and will be quieter in rain and hail.
  • Specific glass types can provide greater solar control.
  • Glass allows a clear view.
  • Incorporating self cleaning glass into a roof helps reduce maintenance.

How does self cleaning glass work?

The outer surface of the glass unit has an active coating bonded to it. This coating is designed to absorb the suns ultraviolet light. As the ultra violet is absorbed, it causes a reaction on the surface of the glass that breaks down and loosens dirt particles. When it rains, this coating, allows the water to wash away loosened dirt particles. It also helps prevent droplets from forming, which in turn reduces streaking.

What is a Composite Door?

November 21st, 2009

A composite door is a very robost door that  replicates a traditional timber door. The door skin moulds are developed from real wood, thus allowing accurate replication of natural grains and patterns.

Generally speaking, the outer skin is made from GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) and covers an internal make up of wood and foam insulation. GRP is extremely durable and in a vast amount of cases will never discolour or fade. This composite construction provides superb noise and thermal insulation.

As far as security goes, a composite door has it covered. Tested to high standards, they are very secure and effective against forced entry attacks.

Composite doors are available in a range of styles and colours. Call us today on 01892 665224 to find out more.

Window Scrappage Scheme

November 20th, 2009

The window scrappage scheme – scrap poorly insulated windows for a £1000 cash incentive! That is what’s been proposed to the government through a petition on the Number 10 website. There is no official goverment scheme as yet. The petition signing dealine isnt even until 24th March 2010.

There seems to be a number of ‘unofficial’ scrappage schemes coming to light with customers being offered up to £2000 off in some cases. In this instance, as always, we recommend obtaining a handful of quotes. That way you can decide if it is a genuine offer or just another marketing gimmick.
